About the event

GROUND GROOVES WORKSHOP - BOSTON

BEG + INT LEVEL

Ground Grooves is a floorwork class emphasizing continuous and fluid movement from a methodical and safe approach. Designed for dancers who are new to floorwork but have some movement experience, this workshop emphasizes building tools and coordination to safely execute fundamental movements. Concepts and choreography are taught at a slower pace.

Working with and without momentum, dancers move through a variety of rolls, slides, inversions, and shoulder rolls focusing on efficiency for longevity, absorbing impact with muscular resistance, and developing qualitative movement textures.

Schedule

10-10.15am - Introductions + writing

10.15-11.20am - Warm-up + across-the-floor progressions culminate in floorwork phrases that emphasize qualitative integration of standing work

11.30-12.20pm - Lab: Discussing + embodying our most utilized movement concepts

12.20-1pm - Lunch

1-1.50pm - Phrasework: Long choreographic sequences focused on integrating floorwork and standing work as well as more challenging skills workshopped in the Lab

1.50-2pm - Writings + group discussion

Dancers can expect to gain:

-increased awareness of weight placement and its effect on spinal freedom and transitional clarity

-tools for developing a lush, spongy movement quality
